PROJECT ALTAIR
Welcome to Project Altair, powered by Unicars!

A national outreach initiative born from the collaboration between Altair Astronomy and Unicars, merging space science education with social responsibility.

Our goal is to make space and astronomy accessible to everyone, through charity and public events, interactive astronomy nights, engaging workshops, digital media, and educational content tailored for all ages.

But this project is about more than just stars. It’s about impact. Every activity we organize is either free of charge or entirely non-profit, with 100% of net proceeds going to charitable causes across Cyprus.

Whether it’s observing Saturn through a telescope, learning about light pollution in a hands-on workshop, or watching a short video online, every moment supports both curiosity and community.

With Project Altair, we’re reaching for the stars, together, with purpose, for people.

ABOUT US
From a young age, I’ve been endlessly fascinated by space, a passion that only deepens with time. What began as quiet nights spent stargazing from my rooftop slowly evolved into something bigger: a mission to share the beauty, wonder, and science of the universe with others. This is how Altair Astronomy was born.

What started as a small personal project has steadily grown into a dynamic, youth-led organization dedicated to public outreach, education, and science communication. Over the years, Altair Astronomy has reached thousands of people through interactive events, astronomy nights, workshops, educational videos, and school presentations. We've collaborated with scientists, educators, institutions—and now, with partners like Unicars—to expand our impact across Cyprus and beyond. Through every telescope we set up and every story we tell, our goal remains the same: to spark curiosity, inspire learning, and give back to our community.

Why Altair?
Years ago, while lying on my rooftop one summer night, I was trying to learn the constellations when I came across the Summer Triangle, a striking trio of stars that forms a large triangle in the sky. Vega in Lyra, Deneb in Cygnus (the Swan), and Altair in Aquila (the Eagle). At the time, I had no idea what "Lyra" meant, and between the swan and the eagle, I picked the star in the eagle constellation, mainly because it sounded cooler. That star was Altair. The name stuck, and eventually, it became the symbol of Altair Astronomy.

ABOUT ME

I am a 19-year-old practical astronomer and scientific communicator from Cyprus, passionate about making space accessible to everyone. As the Founder and Director of Altair Astronomy, I have dedicated myself to astronomy outreach through a variety of projects, including astrophotography, public presentations, various lectures, and digital content creation. Over the years, I have been actively involved in STEM education, teaching at summer schools, leading astronomy events, and working as a scientific associate at the Cyprus Planetarium, where I operated telescopes and presented planetarium shows. More recently, I have taken on the role of Scientific Communicator and Digital Media Coordinator for the European Space Agency's CARES project, helping to bridge the gap between space science and the public in Cyprus. Through Altair, I strive to develop educational initiatives, public events, and multimedia content, all with the goal of inspiring curiosity and fostering a deeper understanding of the universe.
